Frequently asked questions

General

What is Ripaille?

Ripaille is a free application for managing get-together events. It lets you create an event, customize it (description, schedule, logo, theme color), invite guests via a unique link or QR code, and collaboratively organize everyone's food contributions.

Is Ripaille free?

Yes, Ripaille is completely free. No subscription, no payment, no hidden fees. The service is funded by a discreet advertising banner.

Do I need to create an account to use Ripaille?

No, no account is needed. You can create an event or register directly, without signing up first. Events you create or join are remembered locally in your browser, on the 'My events' page.

What languages is Ripaille available in?

Ripaille is available in French, English, German, Chinese, and Spanish. The language is automatically detected from your browser, but you can change it at any time using the selector in the header.

Is there a dark mode?

Yes. A button in the header lets you switch between light and dark modes. Your choice is saved locally in your browser.

Is there a mobile app?

Yes, an Android app is available on the Google Play Store. You can also install Ripaille as an app on your phone or computer from your browser menu ('Install app'), thanks to PWA technology.

Events

How do I create an event?

Click 'Create an event' from the homepage. Enter the event name, your name (the organizer), location, date, and time. You can also add a description, a detailed schedule, a logo, and choose a theme color. A unique link will be generated that you can share with your guests.

What is the schedule for?

The schedule lets you outline the timeline of your event with timed steps (for example: 7:00 PM Aperitif, 8:00 PM Dinner, 10:00 PM Dessert). Each step has a time and a title. The schedule is optional and appears on the event page to inform your guests.

Can I protect access to my event?

Yes, during creation you can set an access password. Guests will need to enter it to view and join the event. If no password is set, the event is public and accessible to anyone with the link.

What is the admin password for?

The admin password protects edits to the event (name, location, date, schedule, logo, color). It is separate from the access password. If set, it will be requested to open the edit form. If not, anyone with access to the event can modify it.

Can I edit an event after creation?

Yes, from the event page, click the ✏️ button next to the 'Information' title. If an admin password was set during creation, you will be asked for it. You can modify all information: name, location, date, time, description, schedule, logo, and color.

How do I share my event?

On the event page, several options are available: a 'Share' button that copies the link to your clipboard (or opens the native share menu on mobile), and a 'QR code' button that shows a scannable code. You can also simply copy the URL from the address bar.

Can I add the event to my calendar?

Yes. On the event page, click the date to open Google Calendar with the details pre-filled. You can then save the event to your personal calendar.

What happens after the event date?

Once the date has passed, the event becomes read-only: registrations are closed and information can no longer be edited. The event page remains accessible to preserve your memories. Data is automatically deleted 30 days after the event date.

Registration

How do I register for an event?

Open the link (or scan the QR code) of the event shared by the organizer, click 'Register', enter the name to display (for example 'The Smith family'), the number of adults and children, then indicate the food you plan to bring.

Can I edit or delete my registration?

Yes. To edit, click the ✏️ button next to your name in the guest list. To delete, click the 🗑️ button. If you set a password during registration, you will be asked for it to confirm the action.

What is the registration password for?

The password protects your registration from being edited or deleted by others. It is always optional, but strongly recommended when the event is public, so that you are the only person able to edit or delete your registration. It becomes mandatory if the event has no access password.

How do food contributions work?

When you register, you can add one or more food contributions you plan to bring (for example: 'apple pie', quantity 1). The name field auto-completes based on contributions already declared by other guests, which helps coordinate and avoid duplicates.

What is the food summary?

It's a collapsible panel on the event page that groups all the food guests plan to bring. Contributions are sorted by name and quantities are totaled. Handy for seeing at a glance what's planned and spotting what's missing!

My events

What is the 'My events' page?

The 'My events' page lets you find at a glance all the events you have created or joined from this browser. It distinguishes between upcoming and past events. On the Android app, it is the default home page.

Where is this data stored?

Your event list is stored locally, in your browser's localStorage. It is never sent to a server. This also means it isn't synced across your devices: if you open Ripaille on another phone or computer, the list will be empty.

How do I remove an event from the list?

On the 'My events' page, click the remove icon next to the event. This only removes the event from your local list; it is not deleted for other guests.

Privacy

What data do you collect?

Only the data necessary for the service to function: event information, the display name of guests, and their food contributions. No browsing data, no tracking cookies, and no sharing with third parties (apart from the ad provider that may display the banner). See our privacy policy for more details.

Do you use cookies?

No, Ripaille does not use any cookies or trackers on the server side. Your preferences (language, light/dark theme, visited events) are stored in your browser's localStorage and are never transmitted to a server.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. You can delete your registration directly from the event page. You can also request deletion of your data by contacting contact@ripaille.org. Additionally, all data is automatically deleted 30 days after the event date.
